Bountiful Pond - Bountiful, Utah
Easy Access from Legacy Parkway or I-15
My first float every season is on Bountiful Pond, on the west side of Legacy Parkway. You get to it by taking the 500 South exit and turning west; then following the frontage road around and back to the north. There is a small parking lot and launch ramp for easy access to the water.

A Bird-watcher's Dream
There are two islands in the middle of the pond that a number of bird species use for nesting. In the Spring or early Summer, you'll see the babies accompanying their parents for their early-morning swimming lessons. At various times, I've seen terns, avocets, teals, grebes, cormorants, coots, herons, sandpipers, egrets, cranes, geese, ducks and pelicans on the water, with many more bird species flitting among the flora and fauna. The website, eBird, lists it as a hotspot for bird watchers.

Big Fun on a Small Pond
Go early on a weekday if you want to see lots of birds and have the pond to yourself. It does start to fill up with paddlers (kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, canoes) later in the day. Bountiful Pond isn't huge, and it's not exactly "away from it all", but when you don't have time to travel or you just want a quick float, it's a good option.
