Navaho Lake - East of Cedar City, Utah

Wow! Who Knew?!
What a beautiful lake this is! I was examining a map of southern Utah and saw this lake located about 20 miles east of I-15 by Cedar City. I had never heard of it, so did some internet sleuthing and thought it sounded like a great overnight trip. It took four hours to drive to Cedar City, where I stayed at an Airbnb overnight, then drove up SR 14 to Navajo Lake.

A Little Chilly
The temperature in Cedar City was 82 degrees, but my vehicle thermometer registered 61 when I parked at the lake. Of course, the water was considerably colder. I paddled about 20 yards off shore all around the lake, just in case, as I didn't have my wetsuit on (my bum started to get a little cold after three hours). There were a few people fishing from shore and only one other boat on the lake. The wind kicked up within the first half hour (of course . . .), but that was just the weather for the day, not an every-day pattern.

Camping, Fishing, and Paddling
There are some very nice campgrounds along the south side of the lake. A couple of them were just opening for the season that day, and others won't be open until later. The snow is still melting in the area - no wonder the lake water is so chilly! When I started my paddle, around 10:00, there was one tent set up. Three hours later, there were families all over the place setting up their camp spaces. At the west end of the lake, you'll find a lodge and some cabins, where you can rent a space to stay, canoes, kayaks, etc.

Hiking and Mountain Biking
If you're into mountain biking or you want a good hike, a trail runs around the entire lake. There are also a number of other hiking trails in the area. Navajo Lake has plenty of outdoor activities to keep you busy for a weekend or longer. The water is pristine and the scenery is drop-dead gorgeous. I'm going to try to get up there again later in the summer. Really beautiful!
